Mr. Zhang was born in 1990 in Xi'an, Shanxi Province, in a musical family and studied piano since childhood. He won the first prize in the first national wind and percussion competition and the first prize in the second national percussion competition for young musicians.
In 2010, he studied at the Royal Conservatory in Denmark to participate in a one-year exchange program, during which he studied with Gert Mortensen and other percussion professors and held a successful solo concert in Denmark. In 2014, Mr.Zhang graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music. He then performed with the National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra and had the opportunity to perform under the baton of conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Eschenbach and Maazel, Mortensen, Johan, Hakon and other conductors.
As a composer, Mr.Zhang premiered his Concerto for Two Percussions "Light and Shadow" at the National Concert Hall in Taipei in 2016, which was well received by the audiences. Afterwards, Mr. Zhang had composed many well-known Chinese percussion works such as "The Rising Sun" for ethnic orchestra, "Hero" for ethnic percussion concerto, "Different Path" for percussion duet, and "Stikeast" for ethnic percussion ensemble.
Mr. Zhang is currently the principal percussionist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music.
