Sicilienne is a style of slow dance music that originated in Sicily, Italy, with a rhythm in 12/8 time or 6/8 slow rhythm, a lyrical melody, accompanied by broken chords, and a melody with appoggiaturas, very similar to the Pastorale.
The Sicilian Dance by the French composer Fury, whose score for the 1898 production of the play "Pelletier et Mélisant" by the playwright Maeterlinck, is accompanied by passages in which the two protagonists look back on their past, is full of sweetness and nostalgia.
The first published adaptation for marimba and vibraphone brings a new sound to the work, while maintaining Fury's compositional style. With 18th century notes, 20th century instruments collide with the musical spark of a new era.
