New York-based flutist Joanna (Yixin) Wu has had a diverse career. She has performed throughout North America, Asia and Europe, and has made a name for herself internationally.

Joanna Wu is currently the Associate Principal Flute / Principal Piccolo of the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra in China. She is an active soloist and chamber musician. Joanna Wu has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Koerner Hall, Canadian Opera Company, Esplanade Hall, Suntory Hall in Japan, National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipei, China, and at the United Nations Headquarters.

She is the recipient of the Thomas Daniel Niffenegger Award, the Women's Musicians Club Farwell Trust Award, and is a winner of the American Flute Association Young Artist Competition, the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Instrumental Competition, the Yale-Woolsey Concerto Competition, and the Protégé International Competition in the United States. She was a member of the Rebanks Family Fellowship and the International Performance Residency Program, and received a master's degree from the Yale School of Music and a bachelor's degree from the Northwestern University School of Music. Her mentors have included renowned performers Ransom Wilson, Susan Hoeppner, Walfrid Kujala, John Thorne and John Oberbrunner.

As an educational advocate, Joanna Wu has worked with students at the Shanghai International Youth Orchestra Festival, the Soochow University Conservatory of Music, the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, and the Suzhou Cultural Arts Center Conservatory of Music, and has taught in North America and Asia. She has served as a judge at the New York Flute Club Competition, as a teacher in the Music in the Schools Initiative program in New Haven, and has been active in promoting flute music. Joanna Wu is a Wm. S. Haynes artist and plays a custom 14K handmade flute.
